One universal truth; which will never change for me is that Mariyln Monroe has and is the most beautiful and sexiest female on earth!
Even though the show business has been looking for an icon like Norma Jeane- they have never succeeded in finding one; neither Scarlett Johansson or Michelle Williams- simply noone can resemble or replace her.
Me becoming fond of her started when I was around 9 years old. At the time, I was living in Germany and they were showing her films on telly. I admired her when I read her biography in the magazine called ‘Stern’. I quickly cut out the script/news and her precious photos, taken by photographer Bert Stern. She was absolutely perfect! Heavenly beauty on earth!
Having said that; apart from this universal truth I can hang on to; my sense of ‘beauty‘ is more of a masculine one..
Again back in Germany, Marlene Dietrich had been one of my favourite artists. Her smokey eyes, along her masculine type (short hair at the back, wearing a suit) was another icon for me. I lovingly watched her films; the one I fell in love with was ‘The blue angel’...More and more I was dragged into this type of ‘beauty’.
What comes with this type of beauty is the style that defines masculine females; portrayed in photos & films : smokey eyes, cigarettes, masculine clothing & manner (suit, boots, manly attitude). Rebellious and chic!
Therefore, the reflection of ‘my beauty/ies‘ in the film business have been more ‘eccentric’, wild or anarchic in nature.. Anne Parillaud in ‘Nikita‘ , Winona Ryder in ‘Reality Bites’; Franka Potente in ‘Run Lola run’, Natalie Portman in ‘Leon‘, Milla Jovovich in ‘The 5th element’ and Rooney Mara in ‘The girl with the dragon tattoo’. I believe that there is much more style and character in this binary opposition. I am totally attracted to it. And it does stand out in ‘my eyes‘ !
