Now is the time of spring festivals in most of the parts of the world…
From throwing of water (Thailand) or coloured powder (India), Holla Mohalla, White House Easter Egg Roll (US), Cheese-rolling (UK), Semana Santa (Mexico), Newruz (Persia), Passover (Jewish), Las Fallas (Spain), Cimburijada – Festival of scrambled egg (Bosna), Walpurgis Night (Central & Northern Europe) to name a few; all have one thing in common:
Celebrating the coming of spring!
What a joyous time! Isn’t it a celebration for us all? After the severe colds, muddy streets, dark days and resting nature we have a revival: the weather getting warmer, days getting brighter and longer, flowers blossoming, and streets getting livelier…
When I was a kid, I was living in a culture where we absolutely loved Easter. Even though our celebration was far from the resurrection of Christ; we enjoyed this long weekend :)  The colourful eggs were great, as well as the huge chocolate rabbit my father would get from work…The vibe around us was fascinating – just something a kid would absolutely love – like Christmas…
When I changed settings the only thing remaining for me was watching satellite TV to catch up with Easter time- 4 day long series, cartoons and peculiar commercials…That was even ‘something’ for one getting used to that atmosphere…
What a nice effect it had and still has on me…And now I’m thinking about the bayrams/ Eid (our religious celebrations)..The only thing a child could enjoy would be the sweets distributed during the first one; the other one I even do not want to mention! ..Instead of creating a nice picture in my mind it would scare me and therefore repel me from celebrating :( …Of course, I do respect religion and people celebrating- no offense. That is not the point. I just want to know why we cannot turn it to a more pleasant ‘visual’..I cannot enjoy our festive season this way…
Maybe it lies in the fact that I was raised up in a European country and was used to these celebrations?? Or maybe it was the way and style those festive seasons were celebrated??
I think both. Or just because it does not appeal to a kid when looking from his/her eyes ?
Capitalism might be unmerciful but with a bit of make-up (marketing) it can serve to a good cause! Maybe those seasons might turn into nicer celebrations? Why not??
Enjoying to the fullest is the best. If possible with the whole world…(One day I hope to travel all around the world to taste all these experiences and more..)
Religious or not, cultural or not it does not matter at all; the most important thing is that we all celebrate the coming of spring, the revival of nature or whatever you would like to call it.

Hurra! Der Frühling ist da ! :)
